You know how sometimes you imagine what you’d say if you met Taylor and it’s realistic (screaming, crying, throwing up), and sometimes it’s so delusional that you consider seeking help? My most delusional conversation with the Taylor in my head is about mobilizing swifties in support of progressive causes.
I’ve spent countless hours plotting: How would I talk Taylor into implementing a boost system à la rep tour to reward civic participation with merch and tour tickets? How would we mobilize swifties? How would we educate them so they could apply the organizing skills they’ve developed on stan Twitter to make a difference in their irl communities?
I’ll likely never get a chance to have that conversation, but I want to continue building toward it being a possibility — and why not continue working on what Taylor already started, by rallying swifties to register to vote in Nov. 2024 and to organize their networks to vote.
Like I told the Associated Press while organizing swifties to campaign against Ticketmaster’s monopoly: People who are involved in fandoms are natural organizers. We’ve learned how to get Taylor VMAs; we can help each other apply those skills to fight for a future where marginalized communities are liberated and no one goes without healthcare, food, or shelter.
To start, head over to swifties.vote, where you’ll find the following tools provided by vote.org:
Check your voter status
Register to vote or update your registration
Request an absentee ballot
See what's on your ballot
Save that page, share it with your networks online and off, and encourage them to do the same. We already know that swifties can be a powerful force for good, and my immediate goal is to show vote.org that there are enough of us to make a difference. And with enough support, we can expand beyond a basic online voter registration form so we can help you fight for policies you care about.
Hope you’ll join us!
